resellerratings.com
Topic: Check out Internet resellers' reputations!
Cost: Free
Free enterprise generates scams. In the old days, fake "medicine men" came to town, put on a show and sold water as medicine. Then, it was door-to-door salesmen scams. Next, (and still present) are telemarketing scams. That's why the US Government created the www.donotcall.gov - see below. (I think the highway system in the 1950's was the last time the US Government did anything good for the people.) But I digress. Now it's Internet scams like you have never seen scams before. It boggles the mind!

Well, let's get something expensive. You find a great deal on a camera? Wow it's $500.00 cheaper than anywhere else! Is it for real? Make sure it's not a re-furbished item, or worse, could be a non-US warranty product!!! Okay, so you think it's the real McCoy - well check them out! And I don't mean the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau is a useless organization. - Why? - Because they get money from the busineses they are supposed to keep an eye on! Can you say ultra-mega conflict of interest? Their reports aren't worth the paper it's printed on. Get the best source on ratings at resellerratings.com!

Go to resellerratings.com instead! Check the merchant out before you buy! And, if you are ripped off, make sure you log your dissatisfaction on their web site! I sure wish I knew about this web site! I was ripped off $5000.00 on a professional camcorder system! (My merchant was rated 0.86 on a scale of 1 to 10! That's right, those @!%^*()# were rated less than one!!!!!)

Luckily, I used a credit card and charged back the #$^$%!@! merchant and got all of my money back, including shipping! Always buy with a credit card, don't send checks! You can "charge back" the amount and the credit card company will get your money for you! Shocked? Not many people know this! Use a credit card and if any merchant anywhere on earth rips you off, you can "charge back" (or, as the credit company calls it, "put the charge in dispute") the amount. If you made at least one genuine effort to resolve it with the merchant and the merchant is a not responsive to you, charge it back! The cost of the item can be five bucks or a million bucks! You will get your money back!

donotcall.gov
Topic: Terminate Tele-marketers
Cost: Free
Once in a blue moon, the US Government actually does something for its citizens! Go to this site and register your phone numbers on it. Tele-marketers can't call you if you do! If a tele-marketer calls, get their information politely and turn them into the Feds! They get fined $10,000 per call! Now that is sweet. (Note: It takes 3 months after registration for the do not call to go into effect.)

annualcreditreport.com
Topic: Check your credit report for free!
Cost: Free
What is going on? The US Government actually passed another consumer friendly legislation. All governments, including the US Government, screw the people. That's their job function. Gridlock in Congress is a good thing. It keeps them from screwing us even more. However, something happened, they are helping us yet again! Due to massive identity theft, the the Congress passed legislation allowing you to get free credit reports to see if you are getting ripped off by spammers, phishers and other scum of the earth. You can get one free credit report per credit reporting agency per year. What a deal! GO to this site and check out the FAQs before you order your reports! Cool beans!

dslreports.com
Topic: Speed test your DSL plus other troubleshooting software
Cost: Free
This site can be reached using dslreports.com or broadbandreports.com. I like to use dslreports since it's shorter to type. Did SBC sell you a slow link? Comcast connection not living up to their claims? How can you prove it? Easy! Go to this site! Once there, look on the left hand column and find the "Tests+Tool" button. Click on it. Look for "Speed Tests". (You'll may need to download some software off the site if your browser doesn't already have the plug-in.) Select a target site (always use the same one for consistency) and start the speed test. If your speed is slower than advertised, call the offending company up and tell them to fix it or get you a better price!
